The first dinosaur in space was Maiasaura, a duck-billed dinosaur. A bone fragment from a baby Maiasaura along with a Maiasaura eggshell were taken into space by astronaut Loren Acton on a Spacelab 2 space station mission delivered by the Space Shuttle "Challenger" (STS-51-F) in 1985 (Jul. 29 - Aug. 6, 1985).
In 1998 (Jan. 22 - Jan 31, 1998) the Space Shuttle "Endeavor" (STS-89) took a skull of Coelophysis to the Mir space station, making it the second dinosaur in space.
